South Lake Tahoe is the busiest, most walkable corner of the largest alpine lake in North America. It sits at 6,200 feet on the California side of the state line, with Heavenly Mountain Resort rising straight out of town and Emerald Bay a short drive up the west shore. Our South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals put you within minutes of the gondola in Heavenly Village, the sand at Pope and Baldwin beaches, and the restaurants and nightlife that spill across the line into Stateline, Nevada.
Choose a cedar cabin under the pines for a ski week, a lakefront home with a private dock for summer, or a condo close to the village so you can park the car and walk. Full kitchens, hot tubs, decks with mountain views, and garages for skis and paddleboards are common across our South Shore homes. Book direct with JZ Vacation Rentals and you deal with a real team, not a call center.
The South Shore is where Lake Tahoe concentrates its attractions. Heavenly’s California Lodge and the Heavenly Village gondola are inside the city limits, so a ski-in morning does not start with a highway drive. Sierra-at-Tahoe and Kirkwood are day trips west on Highway 50 and Highway 88. In summer the same town turns into a beach and boating hub, with kayak and paddleboard launches at Ski Run Marina and Camp Richardson and the M.S. Dixie II paddlewheeler departing from nearby Zephyr Cove.

Compared with a hotel room on the strip, a South Lake Tahoe cabin or condo gives a family or ski group separate bedrooms, a kitchen for early breakfasts before first chair, and a place to dry gear. Compared with the quieter North Shore, you get more dining, more nightlife, and shorter drives to the slopes. If you want the full lake picture, our Lake Tahoe vacation rentals page covers every shore.
South Lake Tahoe cabin rentals range from classic A-frames in the Tahoe Keys and Al Tahoe neighborhoods to modern mountain homes in Heavenly Valley. Condo rentals cluster around Ski Run Boulevard and the village, ideal for couples and smaller groups who want to walk to the gondola. Dog owners will find pet-friendly South Lake Tahoe rentals throughout our inventory; each listing states its own pet policy, so check the property page before booking. Lakefront rentals with docks and beach access sit along the Tahoe Keys canals and the south shoreline.
Lake Tahoe is the lake and the whole basin around it. South Lake Tahoe is the city on the California side of the South Shore, next to Stateline, Nevada. It is the most developed part of the lake, with Heavenly ski resort, Heavenly Village, casinos, and the largest concentration of restaurants and vacation rentals.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport is about 60 miles away, roughly an hour and 15 minutes in good conditions. Sacramento is about two hours west on Highway 50, and San Francisco is about three and a half hours. Carry chains in winter, since Highway 50 over Echo Summit often requires them during storms.
Yes. A number of our South Lake Tahoe rentals welcome dogs, from cabins in the pines to homes near the beaches. Every listing shows its own pet policy and any pet fee on the property page, so check the details for the home you like before you book.
Homes and condos around Ski Run Boulevard and Heavenly Valley are closest to the California Lodge and the Heavenly Village gondola. Many are a short walk or a five-minute drive from the lifts. Look for the neighborhood in each listing description and the map on the property page.
July and August bring warm beach days and the busiest crowds. Ski season runs from about mid-November through April, with the deepest snow in February and March. Late September and early October offer warm afternoons, fall color at Taylor Creek, and lower rates before the snow arrives.
From rentals near Heavenly Village and the Stateline end of town, yes. Heavenly Village, the lakefront shops, and the casino resorts across the state line are all within a walkable stretch of Highway 50. Cabins in the Tahoe Keys or Meyers areas are a short drive instead.
