Meribel is the central valley of Les 3 Vallees, a linked ski area with 600 kilometres of pistes reaching Courchevel to the east and Val Thorens to the west. Built since the 1930s under strict rules that require stone, timber, and pitched slate roofs, it is the most chalet-like of the big French resorts, and our Meribel chalet rentals follow that tradition: wood-panelled living rooms, log fires, balconies facing the Saulire ridge, and ski rooms at the door.
Choose an apartment steps from the Chaudanne lift hub in Meribel-Centre, a ski-in, ski-out home in Mottaret at 1,750 metres, or a large chalet in Meribel Village or Les Allues for a group that wants space and a quieter evening. Book direct with JZ Vacation Rentals and you deal with a real team, not a call center.
From Meribel you can ski three valleys on one pass without repeating a run. The Saulire cable car climbs to 2,700 metres and drops into Courchevel, the Mont Vallon gondola above Mottaret opens the longest red runs in the area, and Val Thorens and its glacier are a lift-linked morning away. Beginners have the Altiport and Rond-Point nursery areas, families the Yeti Park and the Olympic Centre’s pool and ice rink from the 1992 Games, and non-skiers the Tueda nature reserve and the Les Allues heritage trail. For lift status, events, and ski schools, see the official Meribel tourist office site.
Access is among the easiest of the high Alpine resorts. Geneva Airport is about two and a half hours by road, Lyon and Chambery a little less, and the Eurostar ski train and TGV reach Moutiers, 25 minutes below the resort. Free Meribus shuttles link the hamlets from early morning to late evening.
Meribel-Centre and the Rond-Point put you closest to the shops, restaurants, and the Chaudanne lifts, with many chalets on the piste-side slopes of Morel and Belvedere. Mottaret is the highest and most snow-sure base, largely ski-in, ski-out. Meribel Village, with its own gondola to the Altiport, and Les Allues, on the road up from Moutiers, are quieter and often better value. Each listing states its hamlet, distance to the nearest lift, arrival day, and whether housekeeping or a chalet host is included.
Geneva is about two and a half hours by shared or private transfer, with Lyon and Chambery as alternatives. The TGV and the seasonal Eurostar ski train stop at Moutiers, 25 minutes below the resort by bus or taxi.
Meribel-Centre for shops, restaurants, and the main lift hub; Mottaret for the highest, most snow-sure ski-in, ski-out base; Meribel Village or Les Allues for larger chalets, quieter evenings, and better value. Free shuttles link all of them.
Les 3 Vallees typically opens in early December and closes in late April. Christmas, New Year, and the February half-term weeks are the busiest and most expensive; January and late March balance snow conditions and value.
Yes. The Altiport and Rond-Point nursery slopes, the Yeti Park, ski schools with English-speaking instructors, and the Olympic Centre’s pool and ice rink make Meribel one of the most family-friendly bases in Les 3 Vallees, while experts have the whole three-valley network.
It varies. Many are self-catered, and some larger chalets include housekeeping, breakfast, or a chalet host. Each listing describes exactly what is included, along with arrival day and minimum stay, which is usually Saturday to Saturday in peak season.
Yes. From late June to early September the lifts reopen for hiking and mountain biking, the Tueda reserve and the Vanoise National Park are on the doorstep, and there is golf at the Altiport. Chalet rates are far lower than in winter.
